Lighting was planned as wiring, not as effect
The electrician set the ceiling outlets, the fittings came from a catalogue. The question was “is it bright enough”, never “how should this room feel at 9 pm”.
Think light in three layers: dimmed ambient light, zone light on tables and seats, accents on material and wall. Little of that needs new wiring — much of it works with floor, table and wall lamps.
